Zirconium

Zirconium

Zirconium is naturally a hard, lustrous, silvery coloured metal which is produced from the mineral Zircon (ZrSiO4). Zircon is mined primarily in Australia and South Africa - It has also been found in S-type stars, our sun, meteorites and various rock samples brought back from Apollo missions to the moon.

Zirconium is extremely corrosion resistant and is unaffected by salt water, and most acids, alkalis and other agents. However, it will dissolve in hydrochloric and sulfuric acids (but so will your finger!) Because of Zirconium's excellent resistance to corrosion, it is often used as an alloying agent in materials that are exposed to aggressive environments, such as surgical appliances, light filaments, and watch cases. It is also considered to be biocompatible - so is used in prosthetics and surgical implants.

So, all this means that Zirconium is very strong and long lasting, yet light in weight, is completely hypoallergenic and will not tarnish or react to body chemistry.

ZiRO - Black Zirconium Rings

Extreme heat causes oxidisation of the naturally silver metal and the ring turns black. This is not a coating or temporary. A chemical reaction at high heat turns the exposed metal black, so it will not wear off.  It is scratch resistant, and with normal daily wear black Zirconium rings are extremely durable. Machine engraving makes it possible to reveal the natural silvery colour underneath.

From our jeweller: "The fact is though, as with most metals, Zirconium isn't totally scratch resistant. So we recommend you take reasonable, everyday care with your Zirconium ring and don't subject it to unnecessary or avoidable risk.

It's probably best not to wear it when you're bench-pressing your own body weight at the gym. Or, when you're behind the wheel of your trusty power tools. And, we definitely don't suggest that you drive over it in a monster truck. Just look after it and you'll find it'll look after itself."

And finally, all of our Zirconium rings come with a lifetime warranty!
